Apple has introduced iOS 26 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, marking the platform's most significant design evolution since iOS 7. The new interface, labeled "Liquid Glass," emphasizes translucent elements and depth effects across system components, including app icons, menus, and widgets.
The redesign alters key parts of the UI such as navigation tools, control centers, and notifications. Apple indicates that this visual direction will define the iPhone’s design language for the next ten years.
iOS 26 is currently available in developer beta form. A public beta is anticipated in early July. The final release is expected in mid-September 2025, aligning with the retail launch of the iPhone 17 lineup.
iOS 26 will support the following iPhone models:
* iPhone 17 Series: 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17 Air
* iPhone 16 Series
* iPhone 15 Series
* iPhone 14 Series
* iPhone 13 Series
* iPhone 12 Series
* iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
Models predating the iPhone 12 may not receive this update due to hardware constraints.
Users will need 6GB to 8GB of available storage to install iOS 26. Devices must have over 50 per cent battery or be connected to power. A Wi-Fi network is recommended for stability during the update.
To install:
1. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update
2. Select "Download and Install"
3. Enter your device passcode
4. Follow on-screen prompts to complete the update
Early testers can access iOS 26 through the Apple Beta Software Program online. Device backups are strongly advised prior to installation.
iOS 26 integrates advanced on-device intelligence and interface refinement:
* Interface Redesign: A full-screen clock on the lock screen, an updated Safari with immersive browsing, and streamlined camera controls.
* Call Management: Native call screening enables iPhones to respond or defer incoming calls automatically.
* Messaging Tools: Users can initiate group polls, observe real-time typing status, and apply custom or AI-generated chat backgrounds.
* Live Translation: Real-time multilingual support during calls, video chats, and text conversations powered by Apple’s local AI engine. Third-party developers can embed this capability into their applications.
* Visual Intelligence: Users can interact with screenshots to identify objects, schedule events, or receive contextual information. Apple’s integration of ChatGPT powers these actions.
* Maps Enhancements: Personalized routing suggestions and predictive traffic alerts, with simple location sharing options.
